Psychology increasingly plays a critical role in today’s legal system and corrections facilities.
Maryville’s Forensic Psychology bachelor’s degree is designed to prepare you for a career in the social, community and human services fields. This includes careers in corrections, victim assistance and (with graduate work) therapy. Students take courses in psychology, criminal justice/criminology and social science research as well as complete an internship/practicum in the community to gain hands-on experience.

Maryville provides many opportunities for undergraduate student research. You may join a faculty member and a team of students working on an existing or new research project, or students engage in an independent research project. Both options provide an unparalleled educational opportunity to understand the science of psychology and criminal justice.
PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
As part of the Forensic Psychology major, you will complete at least 150 hours in an internship, typically in the St. Louis region. You will gain experience:
• working with individuals who cope with mental illness or substance abuse
• with neuropsychology issues
• the probation process

Professor Geriann Brandt began teaching criminal justice courses at Maryville University in 2002, after more than 13 years working in law enforcement. As an officer, she positively impacted her community, and now as an educator she inspires students to cultivate sharp investigative skills.
